Bluefire Success Story: Pharmaceutical

Situation
A large, multinational pharmaceutical company with sales representatives worldwide became concerned about the security of wireless connections throughout South America.
Sales personnel, responsible for large regions, were calling on physician offices, clinics and hospitals, and using portable wireless devices to download sensitive customer inventory and pricing information, across multiple, unsecured, public networks.
Vulnerability
The pharmaceutical company and its South America-based sales personnel faced three key mobile security vulnerabilities:
- Lack of secure wireless connections throughout South America
- Unsecured data transmitted from South American countries back to the United States
- No policy for wireless devices to match the company’s policy for laptops and desktops
Solution
Bluefire Security Technologies recommended the following wireless device security solution:
- The Bluefire Mobile Security® VPN to ensure that connections to wireless networks would be secure
Results
The pharmaceutical company has successfully deployed the Bluefire Mobile Security® VPN across approximately 1000 units throughout South America, where the security risk was considered the greatest. The company is now reviewing the addition of the Bluefire Mobile Security® Enterprise Edition (with authentication and firewall capabilities) to further secure its mobile devices and networks in South America. At the same time, the company is examining sales personnel use of portable wireless devices in Europe and the United States, and is considering a broader rollout of the Bluefire Mobile Security® VPN in those regions as well.
