Bluefire Success Story: Financial Services

Situation
A global financial services company, with more than 250,000 employees worldwide, was concerned about the integrity of sensitive corporate and client data stored on smartphones and other related devices, and wanted its executives to have secure access to corporate email. The company also was moving its mobile workforce from Blackberry to Microsoft Windows™ Mobile devices. Finally, the company wanted to ensure compliance with the security provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley law, particularly with respect to the recovery of client financial information from devices left behind by departing employees.
Vulnerability
The financial services company faced a number of potential wireless device security problems:
- Customer and corporate financial data would not be secure on lost or stolen devices
- Wireless access to corporate email and servers was unprotected
- Violations of the Sarbanes-Oxley law were risked because the company would not be able to recover data from the mobile devices of terminated/departing employees
Solution
Bluefire Security Technologies recommended and is implementing a multi-faceted wireless device security solution:
- The Bluefire Mobile Security® Enterprise Edition using enforced authentication and encryption
- The Bluefire Mobile Security® VPN to ensure protection of data during transmission
- Application of the company’s laptop and desktop security policy to wireless devices and networks
- Development of a special “master key” data recovery device to provide an administrative override on portable devices of terminated/departing employees, ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley law
Results
Bluefire is implementing its recommended mobile security solution for thousands of company executives, giving the client confidence that its planned switch from Blackberry to other devices can continue.
