Bluefire Security Technologies Receives "Innovator of the Year" Award from Maryland Daily Record

Mobile Wireless Security Company Honored for Virtual Private Network (VPN) Product

BALTIMORE, MD – October 16, 2006 – Baltimore-based mobile security provider Bluefire Security Technologies, Inc. has been honored as an “Innovator of the Year” by the Maryland Daily Record for its development and deployment of the Bluefire Mobile Security® Virtual Private Network (VPN), which ensures secure data transmission via smartphones and other mobile devices.

“Being named an ‘Innovator of the Year’ is a wonderful honor, particularly considering the achievements of our fellow award-winners,” said Bluefire CEO Mark Komisky, who joined other Maryland ‘Innovators’ including Johns Hopkins, the State of Maryland, TX2 Systems, and Innovative Biosensors. “Our VPN offers two features that make the product truly innovative: it automatically recognizes and configures itself for the most common VPN network gateways, and it offers an application-specific toolkit that allows hardware and software manufacturers to embed the secure technology into their products.”

While traditional virtual private networking software existed for some time for desktop and notebook computers and was deployed by sophisticated IT departments, VPNs for use in conjunction with wireless mobile networks were a relatively new phenomenon when Bluefire developed its VPN. Bluefire created one of the earliest VPNs for the popular Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 operating system, and subsequently introduced the first VPN for Windows Mobile 5.0.

Today, the burgeoning market for smartphones and wireless handheld devices, has proven Bluefire’s vision correct.
