Cingular First Wireless Provider to Certify Bluefire
Customers Can Now Extend Mobile Handheld Security to the Edge of Their Networks
Baltimore, MD June 27, 2005 — Bluefire Security Technologies, a wireless security software developer, today announced that Cingular Wireless is the first wireless carrier in North America to formally certify for use on its nationwide wireless data network Bluefire's suite of mobile handheld security offerings for enterprise users.
Bluefire can now offer its mobile security products to Cingular’s world-class roster of business customers. Enterprises that purchase Bluefire products can extend security on their handheld devices to the edge of their corporate networks. The use of Bluefire products enables customers to address two potential security risks: electronic hacking and physical intrusion.
“Mobile and wireless security continues to be one of the most significant concerns among Fortune 500 clients, including IT managers, product managers, and C-level executives,” explained Mark Baker, Bluefire’s Director of Carrier and Strategic Relations. “We’re happy that we now can offer our technology to Cingular customers to provide them with a complete mobile security suite.”
Features of Bluefire’s suite of security offerings, which is FIPS-validated and HIPPA-compliant, include:
Useable with both wired and wireless networks including LAN, WiFi, GSM, and GPRS, with no user intervention.
Compatible with multiple devices and operating systems (OS). Bluefire software operates uniformly across Palm®, Pocket PC® and Windows Mobile® platforms, allowing for consistent enforcement of security policies throughout an organization.
Ease of deployment. Software can be installed onto any networked or remote device. Users can download Bluefire’s software to their device via a web link, email or through third party device management products such as Extended Systems’ OneBridge™ or iAnywhere’s Afaria.™
Transparent to users. IT Security Administrators have the ability to seamlessly manage device security in real time, regardless of the device’s location and without requiring any interaction with the user.
Provide complete on-device mobile security solution including authentication, encryption, integrity monitoring, firewall, logging, and central management.
Interoperable with popular VPN concentrator product lines including Cisco® and Nortel®.
Bluefire’s Baker added that the worldwide interest mobile device security is understandable, given growing concerns about the need to protect and secure sensitive corporate data. “Unprotected mobile devices have the potential to provide a vulnerable ‘backdoor’ to a corporate network,” he said. “The Bluefire Mobile Security® Suite and Mobile Security® VPN enable IT managers to implement the same security policies on mobile devices that they have employed on desktops and laptops. Bluefire Technologies’ Mobile Security Enterprise Edition™ provides customers with the most secure data environment available for mobile handheld devices.”
