Bluefire Announces Government Reseller Agreements

Relationships Underscore Mobile Security Software Company’s Growing Reputation Among U.S. Government Agencies

Baltimore, MD February 28, 2005 — Following its announcements of recently signed contracts to provide long-term mobile data security solutions for the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Coast Guard, Bluefire Security Technologies, Inc. today announced it will partner with five well-known reseller organizations to broaden its presence in the government sector.

CDW-G, GTSI, immixGroup, Inc., Merlin Technical Solutions and Northrop Grumman will offer Bluefire’s wireless security solutions to federal, state, and local government agencies. Government agencies’ need to protect data stored on mobile device is growing rapidly amid increasing signs of a surge in viruses, intrusions, and other security threats directed at handheld devices, mobile phones and wireless networks.

“As agencies seek to improve their efficiency and service to constituents through the use of mobile applications and devices, agencies representing every level and sector in government are increasingly concerned about the integrity and safety of the information on those devices,” said Philip D. Smith, Bluefire’s Director of Sales.

“By engaging with such known and respected government reseller organizations, Bluefire expects to be able to introduce and deploy our unique and comprehensive solutions to more agencies, more quickly,” Smith continued.

immixGroup, Inc., a government business consulting firm which offers a mix of services to help enterprise technology companies do business in the public sector and the carrier of Bluefire’s GSA Schedule 70 contract, echoed Mr. Smith’s position.

Bluefire begins its relationship with immixGroup and the other reseller organizations having already established a presence and reputation for itself in the federal government sector. In December 2004, following extensive testing by its Office of Cyber Security, the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Coast Guard announced that Bluefire technology would become standard on all of its handheld devices holding security-related information. At the same time, the U.S. Bureau of the Census said it would use Bluefire solutions to protect handheld devices to be used in a 2006 Census Test – a prelude to the 2010 Census.

With an increase in the number and level of threats to wireless, mobile devices, demand for wireless data security products and services is continuing to grow rapidly among government agencies. IBM’s recently released Global Business Security Index Report notes that “mobile devices such as PDAs and cell phones are the new frontier for viruses, spam and other potential security threats.”

The IBM Report adds, “Bluetooth and other wireless technologies that connect mobile devices pose new exposures for hackers to target.”
