Bluefire Unveils Carrier-Based Security Package for Wireless Users

Solution Enables Wireless Carriers to Address Growing Demand for Protection and Generate New Revenues with Easy-to-Use Security Offering

Baltimore, MD October 19, 2004 — Bluefire Security Technologies, Inc. today unveiled its Bluefire Mobile Security - Carrier Edition solution that allows wireless carriers to address subscribers’ surging demand for security on mobile phones and handheld devices, while simultaneously creating new revenue streams and increasing average revenue per user (ARPU).

Through the use of Bluefire’s Carrier Edition, carriers will be able to offer their subscribers an easy-to-use, over-the-air downloadable and remotely configurable security software package. Bluefire’s Carrier Edition includes remote password set/reset, remote device wipe (the ability to remotely remove data from a device when a user has determined that it has been lost or stolen), and a firewall that protects users’ data from unwanted electronic intrusion by hackers as well as from viruses, worms and Trojan horses.

Bluefire will provide carriers with customizable Web pages where software sales, downloads and device security management functions can be easily incorporated into carriers’ Web sites and offered to subscribers as a carrier-branded solution. Carriers can create multiple classes of services to target multiple subscriber segments and can choose from a variety of pricing structures, using either per incident or monthly recurring pricing models.

"These services are critical to protecting data stored on the device and during transmission to or from users’ home, office or corporate networks," said Mark Komisky, CEO of Bluefire. "We’re providing carriers with a much needed solution to their customers’ concerns about mobile security, while creating opportunities for the carriers to sell higher-end devices and data services to their subscribers thereby increasing ARPU and reducing churn. Carriers can now demonstrate their commitment to keeping customers and their data secure, and can gain competitive advantage in the marketplace by taking leadership in addressing the growing security threats to mobile devices."

Beyond answering subscribers’ call to action, carriers can also mitigate risks to their own networks by deploying Bluefire’s solution. When subscribers’ devices are protected, it is less likely that a mobile worm, virus or Trojan will spread among mobile devices and across a carrier’s network. If such a circumstance were to occur, it could result in service interruptions, slowdowns, a flood of calls to customer service and significant costs to the carrier.

Bluefire’s Carrier Edition supports devices running today’s major mobile device operating systems such as Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 2003 (including Second Edition, Phone Edition and SmartPhone Edition), and PalmSource’s 5.2.1H Edition running on devices from major manufacturers, including Motorola, Hewlett Packard, Intermec, HTC, Samsung, palmOne and others. Bluefire’s broad OS and device support provides carriers the flexibility to meet the needs of their subscriber base while allowing users to select the device that’s best for them.

Bluefire’s Mobile Security - Carrier Edition is currently in testing with major international carriers. The offering will be available in the first quarter 2005.
