Bluefire Security Unveils New OEM Security Product Resolving Primary Obstacle to Enterprise Adoption of Wireless Data Services

Helps Carriers Operating GPRS and CDMA Networks Capitalize on New Revenue Streams by Eliminating Mobile Device Security Concerns

Las Vegas, NV – CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2003 – October 21, 2003 — Helping to address revenue challenges facing wireless carriers, Bluefire Security Technologies today announced that it now offers a solution designed to help carriers spur adoption of wireless data services by eliminating the mobile security concerns of enterprise customers.

Available now, Bluefire Security is offering carriers an OEM version of its Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus security solution for smartphones and PDAs operating on GPRS and CDMA networks. The CTIA conference marks the first available public demos of this new Bluefire Security product. Interested parties can receive demos at Intel booth #839.

In today’s fast-paced wireless market, carriers are searching for new ways to increase revenue and stay competitive. One opportunity that has not been fully realized is delivery of enterprise wireless data services over existing networks. While all major carriers are chasing a portion of this market, adoption has been slow and revenue has not materialized as quickly as hoped. Enterprise customers have cited security as the primary factor in delaying purchase of wireless data services.

While numerous security solutions exist for the network, one critical vulnerability for the enterprise has not been addressed - mobile devices. PDAs and smartphones have remained unprotected, creating a backdoor to the enterprise that can result in possible information theft, data copying or malicious code attacks. By installing Bluefire Mobile Firewall on customers’ mobile devices, wireless carriers can overcome this obstacle and potentially increase sales of enterprise data services.

"Businesses understand the benefits of mobility, but they can not afford to risk the safety of their information or the lost opportunities that can arise from network downtime. To increase revenues within the enterprise market, carriers need to fully address their security concerns," said Mark Komisky, CEO of Bluefire Security Technologies. "By including Bluefire Mobile Firewall in their suite of data services, wireless carriers can meet this need and generate greater demand for their offerings."

Bluefire Mobile Firewall protects PDAs and smartphones from unauthorized access, denial-of-service attacks, information theft, port scans, port probes, spoofing and file transfer protocol (FTP) file transfers. Easy to install and manage, Bluefire Mobile Firewall will protect devices from the moment it is installed, delivering always-on security.

Features and benefits:

  • Powerful firewall engine protects against multiple hacker attacks
  • Built-in security levels are easily selected through an intuitive graphical interface.
  • Real-time logs and alerting make it easy to track security events and identify attack methods for quick and effective problem isolation.
  • Context-sensitive help documentation and customer support is available to answer questions and maximize product effectiveness.
