Bluefire Security Optimizes for Intel® Pca Processors to Secure Wireless Handheld Devices
For Immediate Release
Baltimore, MD September 9, 2003 — Bluefire Security Technologies TM today announced that it has expanded its suite of handheld security solutions that protect PDAs and mobile data. These security solutions are targeted at Intel® Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) processors based on the Intel® XScale TM microarchitecture. Bluefire used Intel® C++ Compiler for Microsoft Embedded Visual C++* to enhance the performance of its flagship product, Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus TM . Intel announced this new class of compilers for Intel® PCA processors in July 2003.
A compiler translates a high-level programming language, such as C++, into machine language the processor can understand. An efficient compiler can help software applications to run at top speeds.
"Mobile and wireless devices are quickly becoming preferred vehicles for enterprise data delivery, making them more popular targets for snooping, data theft or hack attacks launched through the handheld or the Internet," said Gary Forni, Director of ISV Enabling for Intel’s Wireless Communications and Computing Group. "Bluefire has developed a mobile firewall solution that closes the gap in enterprise mobile security created by unsecured wireless devices and minimizes organizational exposure to handheld vulnerabilities. Going forward, we will continue to support Bluefire to develop new solutions that enable a secure mobile computing platform."
"We’re excited to announce that we have successfully optimized our security software targeted at Intel PCA processors and integrated the new Intel compiler into our solution development process," said Mark Komisky, CEO and co-founder of Bluefire Security Technologies. "By using the Intel C++ compiler and tools for Intel XScale microarchitecture, we’ve achieved a 22 percent performance improvement for Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus. In addition to this impressive performance improvement, the new compiler was easy to integrate into our existing development environment. The Intel Premier Support was very helpful and responsive during this process."
For organizations with mobile workers, Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus is the right solution because it is uniquely designed to secure both handheld devices and the enterprise networks to which they connect. Its rules-based personal firewall engine resides on the device, is easy to configure and customize and protects against multiple attacks. In addition, the solution provides real-time logging and alerting of all device-level activities, which allow administrators and end-users to track device usage, detect intrusions and identify attack methods for quick and effective problem isolation.
