Security Industry Veteran Eric Maiwald Joins Bluefire Security

Baltimore, MD September 3, 2003 — Bluefire Security Technologies today announced that Eric Maiwald, CISSP, has been named director of product management and support. In this role, Maiwald is responsible for expanding Bluefire Security’s customer support infrastructure to meet the needs of its growing client base.
An author of several instructional books on information security, Maiwald’s extensive background in security research, consulting and incident response will help Bluefire Security ensure that its customers are fully protected from threats to handheld devices. As a primary customer research contact, he is responsible for the investigation of mobile device vulnerabilities and security incidents. Maiwald also works with the product development team to ensure that Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus, the company’s flagship product, is continually improved to meet customer needs.

Prior to joining Bluefire Security, Maiwald served as chief technology officer for information security consulting firm Fortex Technologies, where he was responsible for all security research and training activities. In addition, Maiwald managed the day-to-day operations of the network security operations center as the head of Fortex’s Managed Security Services Department. Previously, Maiwald served as assistant director for information security for the National Association of Security Dealers (NASD) where he directed the development and implementation of a corporate security policy. Before NASD, Maiwald was assistant vice president with Citicorp Global Information Network’s Information Security Resource Center, where he managed the development of a security incident response capability. He holds a bachelor’s of science in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s of engineering in electrical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
