Bluefire Security Technologies Joins CTIA'S Wireless Internet Caucus Leadership Council

Baltimore, MD June 3, 2003 — Bluefire Security Technologies today announced that it has accepted the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association’s (CTIA) invitation to join the Wireless Internet Caucus Leadership Council. As a member of this elite industry group, Bluefire will work with other wireless leaders, such as Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Nextel Corporation and Verizon Wireless, to accelerate wireless adoption by addressing security concerns often seen as an obstacle to enterprise use of mobile technology.

The Leadership Council directs the actions of the larger Wireless Internet Caucus (WIC), a core community of organizations dedicated to building a shared vision for the wireless market and creating an action plan to enable its rapid growth. The Leadership Council identifies, defines and prioritizes the impediments facing the wireless industry and assembles action teams of WIC members to address and remove them. In addition to its role on the Leadership Council, Bluefire will help lead the mobile security discussion though active membership on the Enterprise, User Experience and Commerce Ecosystem Management action teams.

"Security is often seen as an impediment to the growth of wireless communications, especially in the enterprise market," said Mark Desautels, Vice President for Wireless Internet Development at CTIA. "Bluefire has pioneered the concept of securing mobile devices and has played an active role in the mobile security discussion since its inception. Its security insights will be a valuable addition to the Leadership Council, which is dedicated to driving the growth of the enterprise wireless market."

Tom Goodman, vice president of business development and operations for Bluefire, will be representing the company on the Leadership Council. Goodman has more than 20 years of senior security management and wireless experience. In his current role at Bluefire, Goodman oversees key customer and partner relationships to ensure positive user experiences with the company’s handheld security software, Bluefire Mobile Firewall Plus.

Prior to Bluefire, Goodman was the director of security and risk management at Aether Systems where he directed all security programs and strategies. In addition, he led the company’s homeland security initiatives to develop and implement strategies for using mobile data technology to support transportation security, counter-terrorism and the first-responder community. Before joining Aether Systems, Goodman helped develop privacy and security strategies for organizations that were subject to regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as the data security and disaster recovery manager for Johns Hopkins Medicine.

"Bluefire is honored to be working with this influential group of industry leaders to help facilitate the enterprise adoption of wireless data and services," said Goodman. "We feel strongly that the security obstacles facing wireless adoption can be overcome through the increased education and industry cooperation offered by CTIA’s Wireless Internet Caucus."
